Michael Cho
Principal Investigator
Associate Professor

Dr. Michael Hyosang Cho is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

He received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Princeton and his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He then completed a residency in internal medicine and a chief residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in pulmonary disease at BWH.  He is board certified in critical care medicine, internal medicine and pulmonary disease.

Dr. Cho’s research investigates the risk factors and heterogeneity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), specifically focusing on the role of genetics and other omics in susceptibility to cigarette smoking. He also studies the role genetics and other omics in interstitial lung diseases and asthma. He has published over 300 manuscripts, has an H-index of 69, and is the PI or co-PI on multiple NIH R01.

Matthew Moll, MD MPH
Instructor in Medicine

Dr. Moll is an Instructor in Medicine at the Channing Division of Network Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Associate Physician in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a Physician in the Section on Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine in the VA Boston Healthcare System. He received his medical degree from Penn State and a Master of Public Health in Quantitative Methods from the T.H. Chan Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Boston University Medical Center and his fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Moll’s research focuses on using genetics and other Omics in early identification and therapeutic intervention for individuals at high risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, and related outcomes. He spearheads genetic and genomic risk prediction projects in the lab, and uses Systems Pharmacology approaches to translate Omics discoveries into therapeutic strategies (e.g. drug repositioning candidates, target identification).

Postdoctorals and Fellows

Aaron Hakim
Fellow in Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Aaron Hakim is a second year fellow in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Aaron earned his medical degree with honors at Yale School of Medicine and graduated summa cum laude from Yale University with an M.S. in Molecular Biology and a B.S. in Economics and Molecular Biology. His research interests are in the genetics and genomics of chronic liver disease.

Leonardo Martini
Postdoctoral Fellow

Hey there! I’m Leonardo Martini, a postdoc fellow at the Channing Division of Network Medicine (CDNM). I earned my Ph.D. in Data Science from the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” where I focused my research on the disease-gene prioritization problem, designing new network-based approaches. Now, at Channing, I’ve started an exciting journey, crafting network-based methods to analyze in Single-Cell data.

Vidhi Malik
Postdoctoral Fellow

Computational biology postdoc working in functional genomics (TAP-Seq, Perturb-Seq). She has also been doing some single-cell work.

Sofia Mettler
Research Fellow

Jingzhou Zhang
Research Fellow

I am a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow at Boston University Medical Center. I am interested in genetic epidemiology and multi-omics research in chronic lung diseases.

Davin Hill
Research Assistant

I am a PhD candidate in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at Northeastern University, collaborating with Dr. Cho on research related to COPD and machine learning. Our goal is to develop novel, robust, and informative representations of lung function using deep learning methods on raw spirograms. I previously completed my MS in statistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a BS in economics and business at UNC Chapel Hill.

Heena Rijhwani
Bioinformatician

My work focuses on applying machine learning and statistical analyses techniques to make meaningful discoveries in precision medicine by analyzing RnaSeq, miRNA and single cell data.

Courtney Tern
Bioinformatician

I manage coding pipelines and provide statistical support to the lab. I work on fine mapping, GWAS, and polygenic risk scores. I build lab websites on the side.
